The Darkmoon Faire has returned to WoW, bringing toys, prizes, and attractions of dubious legality. This recurring event has been around for a long time in the game, but in case you’re not familiar here’s a brief overview of how to participate in the Darkmoon Faire event in WoW.
What is the Darkmoon Faire in WoW and How to Reach it
The Darkmoon Faire is a monthly event in WoW that offers a variety of minigames and prizes. You can tell when the faire is due to begin or end by checking the in-game calendar, and you can even set the filter to only show dates related to the it.
While the Darkmoon Faire used to rotate around several areas, nowadays it takes place within a special instance you can only access through portals near the WoW cities of Stormwind (Alliance) and Thunderbluff (Horde). While they’re not too hard to get to if you’ve any kind of flying mount, you can also simply find one of the Darkmoon Faire Mystic Mages placed around each of the various capital cities. These mages will teleport you directly to the portals for a small amount of cash, so you can get straight to revelling.
What to Do in the Darkmoon Faire in WoW
The faire contains a bunch of activities, from minigames to timed events. Many of these will need either Game Tokens or Ride tickets, which you can purchase from several vendors dotted around the location (there are two near the start of the faire). Some of these rides are fairly simple, like the Whack-a-Gnoll booth or shooting gallery. Others, like the Darkmoon Cannon or Darkmoon Races, may require a little more finesse.
Many ride operators offer a daily quest for a Darkmoon Game Prize, which can grant Prize Tickets. These tickets can be exchanged with vendors up and down the main Darkmoon Faire avenue for a variety of rewards for your WoW account or characters. These include pet versions of the tonks and zeppelins, or toys like the Darkmoon Whistle. Other vendors sell things like old tier sets for transmog, or even heirloom equipment that levels up with your character and can boost experience gain. There’s a lot of things to buy, but luckily you can keep all your prize tickets between faires and can even transfer them between your Warband characters. Which is handy, since the Darkmoon Dirigible mount costs a whopping 1000 tickets.
There are also a few options for WoW players who want a boost on other progression tracks outside the Darkmoon Faire. Currently, there are a few one-time profession quests that can net you a small boost of Khaz Algar crafting knowledge, while you may also find Darkmoon cards while doing other activities in the world that can be either sold on the auction house or used to create decent trinkets. Meanwhile, players looking to speed up their grind can get a 10% experience and reputation buff from either buying and wearing a Darkmoon Top Hat or riding the Roller Coaster or Carousel, though these do not stack with each other.
There are also some timed events that pop up, like Band Performances or mini-bosses, but these are usually announced in chat before they appear and are marked on your map too.
