Back in March 2024, Warner Bros Discovery shut down Rooster Teeth and put the future of the series RWBY in question. At Anime Expo 2024, Viz Media, Barbara “Yang” Dunkelman, and series Co-Creator and Showrunner Kerry Shawcross announced the company acquired RWBY and will continue to distribute past volumes, new merchandise, and even the possibility of additional chapters.
Here’s the official announcement video from Shawcross and Dunkelman. While it is unknown if past developers will return, Shawcross will be involved future Viz Media future RWBY projects.
The statement left some details about the future of RWBY unknown, as it isn’t known if there will be a Volume 10 anime or what will happen with the new possible chapters. However, its English and Japanese X accounts and Facebook will be open, the existing nine volumes will eventually be available again, and there will be updates on the soundtracks.
Viz Media already handled the RWBY manga ahead of this acquisition of the anime and other elements. There are all three volumes of the manga by Bunta Kinami, the Shirow Miwa manga, the official manga anthologies with stories by various artists, and the Daniel Wallace companion book.
RWBY is currently unavailable to stream, but past volumes can be found physically.
