NicoNico Douga, as well as all other NicoNico services, have been down since June 8, 2024 as a result of a cyberattack. Kadokawa and Dwango have put out some statements in regards to the situation.
According to the NicoNico blog, there was a large-scale cyberattack on the video sharing service on June 8, 2024. As of June 10, 2024, there is an investigation behind the scenes to assess the overall damage and programmers are working to reconstruct the entire system without triggering any further attacks. While there have been any questions about premium user fees and whatnot, there can be no definite answers as the investigation is still underway.
Kadokawa has also given some information on the situation in a press release. Aside from NicoNico services, Kadokawa’s official website and Ebiten were also affected by the attack. It’s currently investigating whether or not any personal information was leaked as a result of the incident. Police and third-party experts are also helping with this matter.
There will also be some delays on programs, as well as changes to where they’ll be. The monthly NicoNico Info stream will take place on YouTube instead of on NicoNico. It’ll air on June 11, 2024 at 8 PM JT (4 AM PT/7 AM ET).
More information on the NicoNico situation will appear on the website’s official social media accounts.
