What Is the Loom of Fate in Genshin Impact?

The Loom of Fate is a project launched by the Abyss Order and the Traveler’s sibling, and its purpose is to manipulate the Ley Lines. This guide will break down everything we know about the Loom of Fate in Genshin Impact.

The Tragedy of Caribert

The story of the Loom of Fate begins at the Cataclysm that befell Khaenri’ah 500 years ago. It started with a man called Chlothar, who was a descendant of the founders of Khaenri’ah. Just before the Cataclysm, he had an illegitimate son called Caribert, and he was with a woman from Mondstadt. During the Cataclysm, those who were directly descended from the founders of Khaenri’ah, like Chlothar, were cursed with immortality.

However, those with blood that came from elsewhere in the world, like Caribert, were transformed into Hilichurls. Sometime later, the Traveler’s sibling met Chlothar and helped him make medicine, which would turn Caribert back into a human. After an encounter with a being from the Abyss known as the Sinner, they succeeded in returning Caribert to his former self—but only his consciousness, not his physical form, was transformed.

Caribert was horrified at seeing what he had turned into and was filled with immense pain and anguish. Chlothar attempted to calm him, telling him that after the disaster, they both escaped into a fairy tale world and that in order to maintain their peace, he must never take off his mask. However, Caribert couldn’t resist the temptation and ran away.

Creating The Loom of Fate

The Loom of Fate has the power to weave Ley Lines in its ultimate form. Until then, it can only create and manipulate memories. Sometime after meeting the Traveler’s sibling, Chlothar used the powers of the Abyss to turn Caribert into the Loom of Fate. Caribert died in the process. However, he was only able to become a piece of the Loom of Fate.

After Caribert’s death, a piece of him stayed within the Loom of Fate. What was left of him hung around in the memories of the people who lived in Vimara Village in Sumeru, pretending that he could have a normal life. The Loom of Fate was completed during the Bedtime Story quest after what was left of Caribert stole the Eye of the First Field Tiller from Dainsleif.

Caribert had no idea what the Traveler’s sibling was planning to do with the Loom of Fate. Despite that, he decided to go against their wishes and use it for his own means. Caribert used the Loom of Fate to plant a memory into the minds of every Hilichurl, which would give them a moment of peace in the sea of their agonizing existence. After that, he disappeared.

What Is The Abyss Planning to Do With the Loom of Fate?

It’s unknown what exactly the Abyss Order is planning to do with the Loom of Fate or what they will do next now that it has been completed. Because of its ability to alter the Ley Lines imbued deep within the planet, we can assume that it has something to do with that.

The Abyss Order’s plan involves doing something before the Heavenly Principles can awaken. The Heavenly Principles have been asleep or absent since the Cataclysm 500 years ago, and it appears that they may be awakening sooner rather than later. The Traveler’s sibling tells the Traveler that they hate the Heavenly Principles and that they’re doing what must be done.

Because the Heavenly Principles were involved with the creation of the Seven, and Focalors sought to defy them by destroying her divine throne, it’s very likely that the Loom of Fate will impact the Archons, their powers, and Celestia in some way. The Heavenly Principles are probably what’s standing in the way of the Abyss Order’s ultimate goal.
