Netflix’s Bridgerton and Final Fantasy XIV are both wildly popular and of course, many people may be fans of both. However, for some, it might be surprising to see that FFXIV Bridgerton was trending, but there’s actually a fun reason.
Final Fantasy XIV and Bridgerton are trending together due to a unique fan event organized under the X username XIV Meets Bridgerton. This multi-day in-game event features players dressing in Bridgerton-style attire and roleplaying around themes inspired by the popular Netflix series.
Bridgerton, a Regency-era drama known for its romantic and dramatic storylines, provides a rich backdrop for this creative crossover. Players share their outfits and other photos fitting the theme from in-game to Twitter using #ffxivBridgerton. There have even been in-game recreations of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, further enhancing the immersive experience for participants.
The event runs from June 2 – June 8, with each day’s prompt coming from a theme in the series. Examples include “Ball” and “Scandal”. The event is an exercise in fun roleplay that allows fans of both series to have a good time and share in the fun with like-minded players.
Additionally, there’s actually another noteworthy connection between the two franchises. actor Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony Bridgerton in the series, also voices G’raha Tia in FFXIV. In a recent interview with BAFTA, Bailey shared his love for FFXIV and mentioned how he ensured he could continue playing his character despite his busy schedule doing Company on Broadway.
Bailey said he’s recorded lines for FFXIV in the morning while performing eight shows a week. He said despite this process causing his tongue to swell, he “didn’t want to step away” from G’raha Tia. Bailey also praised the writing of FFXIV as “almost Shakespearean.”
These elements highlight the creative and dedicated community within FFXIV. It also shows the fun ways popular culture can intersect with gaming in ways you’d never expect.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The Dawntrail expansion will arrive on July 2, 2024.
