Diablo IV players can now Temper their items as part of the Season 4 update. This update has included a complete overhaul to the item system, which includes the ability to affix new passives onto your gear. Here is how to Temper Items in Diablo 4.
How to Temper Items in Diablo 4
Recipes to Temper your equipment are obtained through participating in Helltides. Previously, Helltides were only available to specific World Tiers. (You can read more about World Tiers here.) However, through the Season 4 update, Helltides are now available at any World Tier, which makes farming Tempering Recipes a walk in the park.
The fastest way to obtain Tempering Recipes is to participate in Helltides. Helltides are designated by red areas with a deep red border. Optional objectives from the Tree of Whispers will be marked with a flame icon as well. You can check out our screenshot below to see what a Helltide looks like.
After obtaining a Tempering Recipe, you will need to click on it while it is in your inventory. From there, it will be added to your Recipe list. Now head to the local Blacksmith to Temper your items. (You can read about what Blacksmiths do here, but if you’re looking for one, they are designated by a white anvil icon.)
Players can Temper Armor and Weapons, but at the cost of them becoming untradeable. You can also re-Temper objects to change whatever passive you have imbued them with through Tempering. Keep in mind that certain pieces of gear can only be Tempered with certain affects.
Diablo IV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X. It is available through Xbox Game Pass.
