A new The Quintessential Quintuplets anime series is in production. There will also be a new light novel series, which will focus on the daily lives of the quintuplets. [Thanks, Oricon!]
The new series will focus on Futaro and the titular quintuplets’ honeymoon, and the title of the show will be The Quintessential Quintuplets*. There is no information on the light novel beyond the basic synopsis.
Negi Haruba, the creator of the original The Quintessential Quintuplets, supervised both the new anime and light novel series. He will not be writing the light novels though. Hajime Asano, who worked on series like Mayo Chiki and Lapis Re:LiGHTs will be the author.
The Quintessential Quintuplets focuses on a high-school student named Futaro Uesugi, who is poor but very academically gifted. When the Nakano sisters, who are very rich, transfer to his school, Futaro gets a job as their tutor. Unfortunately, they’re terrible students.
As time passes, though, Futaro not only helps them with their schoolwork, but he also marries one of the sisters. Like How I Met Your Mother, the identity of this sister does not come out until the end of the series. The manga series is very popular, spawning multiple anime series, films, and video games.
The Quintessential Quintuplets* is in production, with more information on it to come out in the future. The announcement did not include the studio that’ll be handling it.
