A home computer version of Castlevania will be available to play on the classic computer’s emulator console. Zuiki has announced that it will release the X68000 version of Castlevania on its X68000 Z mini-console on May 30, 2024. The company will bundle the game with Block Hole, a puzzle shooter game that is also known in Japan as Quarth.
Pre-orders for the physical package are immediately available on Zuiki Store at ¥5,478 (~$35.45). The package will feature a game case modeled after floppy disks that were used in classic PCs. The actual game cartridge will appear in the form of an SDHC card that the owner can insert into the X68000 Z console.
Konami originally released the X68000 version of Castlevania in 1993 in Japan. This version was also a remake of the game’s inaugural edition which came out on the Famicom Disk System in 1986. The company later ported this version as-is in the Original Mode of Castlevania Chronicles, which it gradually released worldwide on the PlayStation in 2001.
This new port will add another entry to the list of classic Castlevania games that get brought over to modern consoles. Konami released the Castlevania Advance Collection which primarily featured the series’ GBA entries for the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2021. Nintendo also added the Game Boy version of Castlevania Legends to its Nintendo Switch Online lineup in October 2023.
The Castlevania and Block Hole Deluxe Pack will be available for X68000 Z on May 30, 2024.
