Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 have a Co-op mode?

The short answer is no: Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not have co-op or multiplayer. Despite the game having some pretty interesting “online” features, you are not able to join your friend’s game to help them take on an Ogre or Chimera. I know, it’s a bummer. Given the game’s Pawn system, you would think this would be a no-brainer. Exploring Vermud with a friend would have been awesome, not to mention extremely helpful, given how strong certain enemies are.

However, Dragon’s Dogma 2 does have a way for you to connect with a friend and help each other in a pretty big way. With the game’s Pawn system, you can actually connect your games and hire each other’s Main Pawn. That means as you progress the game, you can hire a friend’s overpowered Sorcerer so you can start nuking Harpies to your heart’s content. While not “multiplayer” in the traditional sense, you can play the game’s story alongside a buddy while swapping Pawns with each other.

Here are the steps to take Dragon’s Dogma 2 online so you can hire a friend’s Pawn:

  • Add your friend on PlayStation Network, Xbox, or Steam.
  • Start up your game and pause to access the main menu.
  • Select the “System” option and then scroll down to the Network tab.
  • On the Network tab, toggle “Network Features” to “On.” Next, turn “Main Pawn Online Access” to “Anyone.”
  • Head to any Rifstone in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and enter it.
  • Once inside a Riftstone, interact with it and click the “Pawn Search” menu.
  • Next, select the “Friend’s Pawn” option, which is under “View Favorited Pawns.”
  • You will now see a list of your friend’s Main Pawns.
  • Pick which one you want, and click “Summon Pawn” to bring them to your Rift.

If you are at the beginning of the game, you can visit the Grand Rifstone in the center of Vernworth Capital. However, any major Riftstone will work. Just walk up to it and enter. Once inside, click “Cicle” (PlayStation) or “B” (Xbox) to “Examine” the Riftstone.

This will up the Pawn menu. Click “Pawn Search”. Finally, navigate to “Friends’ Pawn” where you can now hire their characters to your game. The final step is to pick which Main Pawn you want to bring into your game. Click that character and select “Summon to Rift”. You can now hire your friends Main Pawn to your game.

Will Dragon’s Dogma 2 multiplayer be added in the future?

At the time of writing, Capcom has not announced a Dragon’s Dogma 2 multiplayer mode. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that we will be seeing a co-op mode anytime soon. However, if you are on PC, players should keep their eyes peeled for mods. You never know. While there is no Dragon’s Dogma 2 Co-op, the game does have several “co-op-esque” features.

Besides sharing Pawns with friends, one of the game’s main features is Dragonsplague in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The infection turns Pawns berserk and can ruin your game. Interestingly, you can send the infected character back into the Rifstone and infect other players. So while not technically co-op, it’s an interesting feature that further “connects” other players games progression together.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
