Where to find Frontier Shrine Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2 (Sphinx location 2)

After answering the five Mountain Shrine Sphinx Riddles in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Goddess will fly off to a new location. Besides calling it a “new abode,” she doesn’t give you a hint of where her next shrine is located. We’ve got you covered, though, as we’ve already tracked down where she has set up her next riddles.

The second location where the Sphinx can be found in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is at the Frontier Shrine north of Rest Town. The easiest way to reach it is to travel under the bridge near the Rest Town entrance. Follow the lake that runs under it and then take the cave. You can now find the Shrine by hiking through the mountains.

For your convenience, we will provide a map below that shows where you can find the Sphinx location 2 in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx riddle answers in the Frontier Shrine

Once you’ve made your way to the Frontier Shrine in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Sphinx will have a set of five new riddles for you to solve. Unlike the Mountain Shrine, the Sphinx Riddles are now randomized. As a result, you may need to jump around this guide a little bit, depending on which question you get first. However, the answers stay the same.

Below are the correct Frontier Shrine Sphinx riddle answers:

  • Riddle of Reunion: “Let us resume at once – I, too, have grown rather engrossed.”
    • Answer: Finding Frontier Shrine – (The first riddle will automatically be solved the second you talk to Sphinx at the Frontier Shrine.)
    • Reward: 104,999 Gold.
  • Riddle of Recollection: “Let yonder statues be your means. For every question aptly answered, bring one here before me.”
    • Answer: The number of Riddles solved so far – (if you get this question after Riddle of Reunion, the answer is 6. However, if she asks this later, then the solution is 5, plus however many chests you have opened so far at the Frontier Shrine.)
    • Reward: Unmaking Arrow.
  • Riddle of Futility: “Here I have an amphora destined for Ser Maurits in Battahl. Deliver it to him, but beware, it’s rather fragile.”
    • Answer: Use Sealing Phial on an NPC named Maurits in Bakbattahl and bring him back – (Maurits can be found in the Mural Byway in Bakbattahl. Shrink him with the Sealing Phial then travel back to Frontier Shrine to unite him with the amphora pot.)
    • Reward: Eternal Bond Ring.
  • Riddle of Contest: “Come, try your arm – though he shall be your opponent, not I.”
    • Answer: Stun the Soldier and then lift him up. Carry him and throw him off the cliff – (Sphinx will make you equip Ring of Derision, which lowers your attack to 1. Either have your Pawns attack the soldier or throw him over the cliff.)
    • Reward: Ring of Ambition.
  • Riddle of Differentiation: “I seek this man. If men are so distinct, I’m sure you’ll find him in a trice.”
    • Answer: Bring Vergil to Sphinx – (Vergil can be found on the other side of the Battahl border gate in Rest Town. Kill him, and carry his body back to the Sphinx. Use a Wakestone to revive him and present him.)
    • Reward: Whimsical Daydream (Trickster Vocation Weapon).

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Reunion Solution

The Riddle of Reunion in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is easy to complete because it literally gets solved just by finding the Sphinx in the Frontier Shrine. Basically, view this one as a “freebie.” However, this riddle may be here to throw you off from a later question she will ask. Just keep in mind this “counts” towards the number of riddles you’ve solved.

After speaking to the Sphinx at Frontier Shrine, the Riddle of Reunion will automatically be marked as complete. The best part of this? You get a whopping 104,999 Gold just for showing up to part two of her bizarre quiz game show. I mean, I’m certainly not complaining!

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Recollection Solution

The Sphinx Riddle of Recollection is a little tricky due to the Frontier Shrine questions now being randomized. The way the question works is you need to tell the Goddess how many riddles you have solved so far. Assuming you didn’t miss any questions at the Mountain Shrine, that means you have six riddles solved when reaching Frontier Shrine, as Riddle of Reunion is automatically completed upon your arrival.

However, if Sphinx asks you this question later on, then your answer is going to change. The easiest way to solve this is to look at the number of chests that have been opened at the Frontier Shrine. Take that number and add it to the “five” riddles you solved earlier. Once you have your solution, walk over to the side of the Shrine, pick up the same number of statues, and place them on the podium. So, in my game, for example, I had to pick up “six” statues.

Press “R2” (PlayStation) or “RT” (Xbox) to lift up each statue. Walk each of them over to the podium and then place them down. After you have the correct number of statues put down, speak to Sphinx and confirm this is your answer. She will then confirm that you have counted correctly and will reward you with the Unmaking Arrow. This powerful Archer bolt can one-shot kill any enemy in the game, but can only be used once.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Riddle of Futility Solution

The Sphinx Riddle of Futility puzzle is one of the most difficult to complete in Dragon’s Dogma 2. To solve it, you are supposed to pick up the amphora pot and carry it all the way to Bakbattahl to deliver to Maurits in the Mural Byway. However, this pot can break extremely easily. Seriously, if one wrong step is taken, the Arisen will drop it and shatter it to pieces.

You can slowly carry the pot back to Rest Town and then take an Oxcart to Bakbattahl, but this would take hours. Instead, I believe the best solution for Riddle of Futility in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to use the Sealing Phial. Make your way to Bakbattahl and then find Maurits in the Mural Byway. For your convenience, I have provided a map below that shows the exact location of Maurits in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

Once you arrive at the Mural Byway in Bakbattahl, you will immediately be greeted by Maurits, who is talking about the Sphinx. After talking to the Beastren scholar, open up your inventory and look for the Sealing Phial item you got as a reward for completing the Mountain Shrine riddles. Click on the Sealing Phial and then select “use” after speaking to Maurits.

A cutscene will then trigger, and the Arisen will then shrink and suck Maurits into the Sealing Phial. Now that you have the Bakbattahl scholar in your pocket (literally), it’s time to head back to the Frontier Shrine. If you placed a Portcrystal at the shrine, you can actually use a Ferrystone and immediately warp back. If not, use the Oxcart to travel back to Rest Town. And then make your back Frontier Shrine on Foot.

After you arrive at the Frontier Shrine again, walk up to the amphora pot and then pause your game. Next, find the Sealing Phial in your inventory and then select the option to “unseal it.” Maurits will then appear next to the pot, and Sphinx will mark the Riddle of Futility as complete and reward you with the Eternal Bond Ring. Even though you were supposed to technically carry the pot to Maurits, we have cheesed the riddle by bringing Maurits to the amphora!

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Contest Solution

In the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Riddle of Contest, the Sphinx will have you battle a soldier to the death. Sounds easy, right? The only problem is that the Sphinx equips you with the Ring of Derision, which basically lowers your attack stat to 1. This means you won’t do any damage to your opponent.

To solve the Sphinx Riddle of Contest, can either have your Pawns attack the soldier, or you can throw him off the cliff. If you want your Pawns to step in, then back up from the Podium and walk towards the area where your Pawn are standing and they will start attacking. However the easier solution in my opinion, is to throw the soldier off the cliff.

After stunning the Solider, you will have a small window to press “R2” (PlayStation) or “RT” (Xbox) to pick him up. In my game, I had already unlocked the Magick Archer Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, so I had access to a “sleeping” spell. I made the soldier take a nap and then picked him up.

Once you have the soldier stunned or put to sleep, pick him up and carry him to the side of the Frontier Shrine. Keep walking past the pillar until you are on the edge of the cliff. Next, press “R1” (PlayStation) or “RB” (Xbox) to throw the soldier off the cliff and kill him instantly. The Sphinx will be amused by this and will reward you with a Ring of Ambition.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Differentiation Solution

The Sphinx Riddle of Differentiation puzzle is the second most difficult puzzle to solve in this quest as it’s similar to the Riddle of Futility. To solve this puzzle, you need to head to Rest Town and pass through the Battahl Border gate. After showing your papers to the guard, walk through the gate and look for an NPC named Vergil.

It’s important to note that Vergil has a twin brother who walks around Rest Town. This is meant to throw you off on the riddle. However, as long as the name says “Vergil” and he’s on the other side of the border gate, you are good to go! To help you out further, we have provided an image below showing what he looks like in person.

Now, the next step isn’t going to be pretty. However, in my opinion, the best way to complete the Sphinx Riddle of Differentiation is to carry Vergil to the Rest Town entrance and kill him. Yes, you read that right (don’t worry; we will revive him later with a Wakestone). After you kill Vergil, pick him up and take him under the bridge of Rest Town, and hike through the caves back to the Frontier Shrine carrying his body along the way.

Once you are carrying Vergil, you can take this exact path back to the Sphinx:

When you reach any rocks, press “R1” (PlayStation) or “RB” (Xbox) to throw Vergil’s body to the higher platforms. Keep throwing his body around and carrying him until you reach the Frontier Shrine. However, before you speak to the Sphinx, put Vergile down and revive him with a Wakestone.

Once you revive Vergil, pick him up again and put him down on the Podium in front of the Sphinx to complete the Riddle of Differentiation. The Goddess will confirm that this is the right person she was looking for and will reward you with the Whimsical Daydream, which is a weapon for the Trickster Vocation.

How to open Golden Sphinx Chest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 Frontier Shrine

If you have completed both the Mountain and Frontier Shrine Sphinx Riddles in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you may be confused when you are left with the giant golden chest still locked. That is because the only way to open the Frontier Shrine Golden Chest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to kill the Sphinx and pick up the “Key of Sagacity.”

The only way to defeat the Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to have the Arisen be an Archer and use the Unmaking Arrow that you unlocked from one of her earlier riddles. Before she flies off, pause your game and equip the Unmaking Arrow. Then, have your character shoot her. Inside the Golden Sphinx Chest is the “Eternal Wakestone” item, which can be used to revive numerous people.

After you answer the 10 Sphinx Riddles correctly, you will complete the “A Game of Wits” quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Unfortunately, if you don’t kill the Sphinx after completing her puzzles, you will not be able to get into her golden chest. If this is you, I totally feel your pain! During my first playthrough, I was using the Magick Archer vocation, which can’t equip the Unmaking Arrow for some reason.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
