The HP mechanic in Dragon’s Dogma is a little unique, and those unfamiliar with the previous title may find themselves wondering why they can’t restore their HP bar immediately. This guide breaks down how to fully recover your HP in Dragon’s Dogma 2 to get you back into fighting shape.
How to Fully Recover Your HP in Dragon’s Dogma 2
If you are unfamiliar with Dragon’s Dogma, you may notice that if you sustain too much damage over time, your total health will start to deplete. Any chunk of health missing from your HP bar that isn’t solid and gray cannot be restored through curative magics or items. Instead, because of the nature of Dragon’s Dogma, the game will force you to rest. A lot of this game is about taking time to explore, get your bearings, and prepare yourself for any challenges ahead.
So, in order to fully recover your HP, you will need to either rest at an inn or camp. If you are unsure about how to set up camp and everything that requires it, you can read more about that there. Inns, on the other hand, are found within almost every settlement, major or not, and are designated by an icon with a bed and stars around it. The game will teach you about inns and their functions within the first thirty minutes of the game.
However, you may think they’re a monumental waste of time and that camping is a lot better when it comes to restoring HP. And you could be correct. Camping restores your HP and also provides beneficial buffs if you choose to cook before sleeping. However, what inns provide are solid checkpoints. By resting at an inn, you create a hard save state. My suggestion is that before you do anything you might regret in terms of completing a quest or giving an NPC an item, you sleep at an inn.
I say this because if you select the “Load Last Save at an Inn” option, you will delete your autosave data. Don’t be like me, load it up, and lose upwards of 10 hours of progress because you want to be frugal. So keep that in mind when looking to recover your HP and fill your HP bar back up. While camping may save you money, you’ll want to sleep at an inn every so often just in case if you end up making a decision you might end up regretting.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
