How to Recruit Ridiel in Unicorn Overlord

In Unicorn Overlord, you sometimes need to “save” someone during a battle to recruit them. Ridiel falls into that category. The half-elf is a third-party fighter in the “A Half-Elf’s Resolve” Side Quest, and you need to reach her in time to recruit her.

How do I recruit Ridiel in Unicorn Overlord?

So even though Ridiel is considered an Elheim character, especially due to being a half-elf, her quest is in the eastern corner of the map and you can sort of see the area when you’re in Drakenhold. Essentially, you’re making your way to Voinikola Harbor. Heading over to the area means you’ll trigger a story segment in which Alain sends Chloe into town to do some scouting. She’ll meet Ridiel and overhear talk suggesting she’s a double-agent, as well as prejudice about her background.

I’m not going to spoil what happens during the story portions of this. However, once the enemy level 16 Side Quest “A Half-Elf’s Resolve” begins, we’ll immediately see Ridiel fighting Zenoiran forces on the map as a third party. She’s directly south of the base where your units will be deployed, so there’s no real threat to her.

Your goal right now is to deploy someone and immediately head south to meet her. You don’t need to actually select any “talk” action to trigger a conversation. In my case, I had Lex and Chloe in a unit together and sent them south, and immediately Chloe talked to Ridiel, they reunited, and Ridiel joined the army.

Here are some screenshots I took of the moment, showing exactly where she is and how it happens:

With Ridiel now around, safely make your way through the stage. You’ll get a Barbed Ribbon, a Stardust Hourglass, and the Mercenaries key item, as well as recruit the half-elf archer. Elven Archers are a unique variant of archers in Unicorn Overlord. Ridiel falls under that category even though she is a half-elf.

Unicorn Overlord is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X
