Rumor: Yakuza Team Developing Sci-Fi Shooter Titled Binary Domain

This news is going up as a rumor and with hesitation on our part. Scans of Famitsu have not surfaced, but a poster on the popular Japanese message board 2ch reportedly typed out the contents of this week’s issue of Famitsu. Please take this with a grain of salt until we can get further confirmation.

Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator of Super Monkey Ball and the Yakuza series, is developing a sci-fi robot shooter called Binary Domain. Members of the Yakuza team plus overseas (presumably Western developers) staff are collaborating to create the game.

Binary Domain takes place in Tokyo in 2080, a setting that some overseas staff disagreed with. The game has an extremely high level of AI and online play, which the team is focusing on. It sounds like Binary Domain may be a third person shooter. A scene (from a picture we have not seen) shows an old Buddhist monk shooting a robot soldier from a TPS point of view. Screenshots (supposedly in Famitsu) are all CG images.

Sega is planning to release Binary Domain globally, which probably won’t surprise since the team has staff from the East and West.
