Midgar was the iconic main location for players in Final Fantasy VII Remake and was where the bulk of the main story took place. When it comes to FFVII Rebirth, people may wonder if it is possible to return to Midgar once again and explore its various sectors.
Can I return to Midgar in FFVII Rebirth?
Editor’s Note: Slight spoilers ahead for early parts of the main story.
Yes, players do technically go back to Midgar, in a way, in this game. However, before you get too excited, just know it is heavily restricted. You aren’t able to freely explore like in the previous remake game. Instead, it only happens at select moments in the main story. Worse still, you can’t freely go back to Midgar at anytime on the world map.
If you try to go back to Midgar from Kalm, the game won’t let you. This is despite being quite close to the major Shinra-controlled city.
So, while you can return to Midgar again in a way, it probably won’t satisfy most players.
How do I visit Midgar in FFVII Rebirth?
You visit Midgar, specifically, when playing through the Zack portions of the main story in FFVII Rebirth. In fact, you experience this for the first time right when the game starts. These interlude moments with Zack and others are the player’s only time to revisit Midgar. They are extremely brief periods of time, so they barely count for me.
There aren’t really side quests or anything of the sort to keep players interested there for a long time. As such, it is best to focus on the other major cities and hub locations players visit in this remake. The major cities this time around include places like Nibelheim, Kalm, Gongaga, the Gold Saucer, Cosmo Canyon, Costa del Sol, and more.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available right now exclusively for the PS5.
