The Mindflayer Crown is a rare material needed to craft the Psychic’s Charm accessory in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Here is how to get the Mindflayer Crown in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and how to unlock the rare boss encounter in the Junon region.
Where to find Mindflayer in FFVII Rebirth
If you reached the Junon region, you may have noticed that you can now craft the Psychic’s Charm using the Item Transmuter feature. If you were confused about where to get the Mindflayer Crown material required to craft it, you aren’t alone! That is because the rare resource is actually tied to a hidden boss fight on the map.
Similar to the Quetzalcoatl Talon in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, you must first unlock a special boss encounter by completing World Intel for Chadley. Specifically, you must complete all four Lifespring activities in the Junon Region to add the Mindflayer spawn to your map. For your convenience, we have provided each Lifespring location in Junon on the maps below:
The final Lifespring is located in south Junon, next to the abandoned Lighthouse:
It doesn’t matter which order you complete the Lifespring activities in. After you have scanned the fourth and final one, a cutscene will be triggered with Chadley. He will then unlock “Classified Intel: The Whisperer in the Darkness” on your map.
FFVII Rebirth Mindflayer Crown Location
The Mindflayer can be found in south Junon in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth near the broken pirate ship in the ocean. Simply go to the Classified Intel: The Whisperer in the Darkness marker on the map below to start the special encounter.
To get the Mindflayer Crown, you must defeat the Psychic Squid in battle. Unfortunately, the Mindflayer doesn’t have any particular weakness. So, the best strategy to defeat him is to hit him as hard and quickly as possible.
Get your ATB meter up, and keep spamming your abilities. And as soon as you get your Summon and Limit meter filled, use them! Because the Mindflayer will send out a variety of spells with status effects, I also recommend constantly dodging and moving around with Cloud.
Once you have defeated the Mindflayer, you will automatically get a drop of the Mindflayer Crown crafting item. Unfortunately, you only get one material per battle. So, if you want to craft more of the Psychic’s Charm, you must keep repeating this battle.
And unlike the Quetzalcoatl Talon found in the Grasslands, there isn’t a specific quest tied to the Mindflayer Crown. So, the item is more useful for players who want the Magic-boosting accessory. Plus, it’s a cool encounter worth experiencing regardless.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
