Cid Highwind is back in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as a major character. Unfortunately, you will have to get pretty deep into the main story before you’ll be able to recruit him. Here’s how to meet and get Cid Highwind to join the party in FFVII Rebirth.
How do I get Cid to join the party in FFVII Rebirth?
Note: Spoilers ahead for the main story.
Those who played the original Final Fantasy VII may remember Cid Highwind joins the party once the members of Avalanche head to Rocket Town, which is his hometown. However, that isn’t the case in this game, as you don’t even go to Rocket Town in this second entry in the remake trilogy.
Instead, you’ll first meet Cid when you reach the end of the Gongaga Region’s storyline. It is at this point you’ll ask him to take you to Cosmo Canyon via the Tiny Bronco. Even still, he doesn’t really join the party just yet. Instead, you’ll have to wait until the end of Chapter 11 and beginning of Chapter 12, when the party takes off to return to the Gold Saucer, for Cid to more formally join the group and interact with the others beyond flying them around.
Is Cid playable in FFVII Rebirth?
While Cid joins the group in FFVII Rebirth, he isn’t actually playable in this particular game. He and Vincent Valentine are unplayable in this title and will likely be permanent party members in the upcoming third and final game in the trilogy. Until then, players will only have the rootin’ tootin’ Tiny Bronco pilot as a guest character in a way.
Cid is more like Red XIII was in the first game in the trilogy, where he is in the background. However, unlike Red XIII in Remake, Cid doesn’t even fight in battles as a guest character in Rebirth. He still plays a significant role in the plot, though, as the reason for the party being able to fast travel easily around the world map.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available right now exclusively for the PS5.
