How to Assign Pals to Work in Palworld

One major feature of Palworld is the ability to assign your captured Pals to work in your base. This is essential to help you gather regular resources automatically, making survival easier.

How do I assign Pals to work in Palworld?

The Palbox is key to how you assign the right Pals for working in your base. As the central hub for the base, it allows you to swap out any Pal for another. You’ll be able to see the skills of each Pal in the info box to the right. Each Pal has specific skills they will employ when put to work. So if you’re in need of a Pal who can water your crop, check for the Watering skill, then move them into the “Pals at the base” box at the bottom of the screen.

However, sometimes Pals may get to work on tasks you’re not interested in them doing at that moment. For instance, a Pal with the Mining skill may be busy transporting some recently chopped wood but you really need more stone mined. There is a method to change this, however.

When you approach a Pal working in your base, a button prompt will appear that allows you to pick them up and carry them somewhere else. Where you place them will encourage them to take up the nearest task. So for the Mining task, placing the Pal near a rock or Stone Pit.

However, the feature doesn’t work consistently in the game’s current state. Frequently Pals will ignore the job assigned to them and wander back to what they were doing. Sometimes they will temporarily fall asleep instead. Sadly there doesn’t appear to be any mods fixing this issue, so it’s likely that you need to wait for a fix from Pocketpair themselves.

Who are some good Pals to assign jobs to early On?

While higher level Pals have a wider spread of skills and are better to assign to the base in the long run, it’s also important to know which Pals are useful at the start of the game. Here is a list of Pals who are good for each job early on.

  • Gathering: Cattiva, Chikipi, Lifmunk, Daedream
  • Farming: Lamball (Wool), Chikipi (Eggs)
  • Handiwork: Lamball, Cattiva, Lifmunk, Pengullet, Daedream
  • Kindling: Foxparks
  • Lumbering: Lifmunk, Eikthyrdeer
  • Mining: Cattiva
  • Planting: Lifmunk, Gumoss
  • Transporting: Lamball, Cattiva, Pengullet, Daedream
  • Watering: Pengullet, Teafant

All of these Pals can be found between the starting point of the game and the Rayne Syndicate Tower and are easily caught.

Palworld is out now in Early Access for the PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
