How do I change my Portrait in FFXIV?

Portraits are an avenue for player expression, allowing some customization to truly make your first impression when entering a Dungeon, Trial, or Raid. You can assign each Job Class a specific Portrait that will load in alongside you. You will gain access to this immediately, so you don’t need to undertake any quest to unlock it.

To change your Portrait in FFXIV, you will need to do the following:

  • Open Character Menu
  • Locate Portraits
  • Select Your Portrait
  • Select Edit

Keep in mind that you will have as many Portraits as you do Gear Sets, as what outfit you wear in your Portrait will be determined by your Gear Set. Additionally, for the Portrait to work, you will need to be wearing that specific Gear Set and Glamour (if you have one applied) for it to show up. Otherwise, your Portrait will return to the default one.

Thankfully, the game will let you know if something is wrong with your Portrait either though the interface, or when popping into a Duty. If you delete that Gear Set, it will also delete your Portrait.

Additionally, taking your Portrait is a bit like using GPose. This means that you can have your character perform an animation and capture it to take that perfect picture.

Customization options include stickers and frames. You can obtain addition Portrait Frames in at The Wolves’ Den Pier in La Noscea. You can choose from a total of 20 different Portrait Frames, each based on the individual Job Classes, at 1,500 Trophy Crystals a piece. You can obtain Trophy Crystals by PvPing and progressing through your PvP specific Season Pass. You can hold up to 20,000 Trophy Crystals at a time, which means if you’ve reached your cap and are looking for things to spend it on, you can burn some on Portraits.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
