Meet All the Physical Characters in Honkai: Star Rail

The Physical type in Honkai: Star Rail will likely be a familiar one for players picking characters to use, as this is the type the Trailblazer started out with. This guide will break down all the Physical characters in the game, as well as which ones you should invest in.

What are the benefits of a Physical character in Honkai: Star Rail?

Unlike HoYoVerse’s other popular game, Genshin Impact, the combination of Types do not unlock new reactions, nor does the environment affect them. This means that how “good” a Type is depends mostly on the enemy’s Weakness or the Break Effect. In Physical’s case, Breaking an enemy with a Physical attack will cause them to get the Bleed debuff.

Bleed is a DoT, which means that they take damage every time they start a turn. If we’re going to get into the nitty-gritty mathematical details, then the game counts Bleed DoT differently than, say, Wind Shear or Burn. Those DoTs scale off Base Break DMG. However, in Bleed’s case, it calculates DoT based on the target’s Max HP. Physical characters excel in Weakness Breaks, since the multiplier is 2 as opposed to most other Types’ 1.

To cut a long story short, the bulk of damage you’ll do from a Physical character comes from Weakness Breaks. Physical DoT works best if you’re going up against an enemy with high HP.

Who are all of the Physical characters in Honkai: Star Rail?

  • Argenti (5-star Erudition)
  • Clara (5-star Destruction)
  • Hanya (4-star Harmony)
  • Luka (4-star Nihility)
  • Natasha (4-star Abundance)
  • Sushang (4-star Hunt)
  • Trailblazer (5-star Destruction)

Who are the best Physical characters in Honkai: Star Rail?

Which character is the “best” depends on your team, build, and the enemies you’re going up against. However, as a whole, you won’t go wrong if you build Natasha, Trailblazer, and Hanya. Special mention goes to Argenti and Clara. Argenti is great against multiple enemies, but he’s a little lackluster in smaller groups. Clara is a great tank and attacker with a unique kit. However, her DPS potential relies too much on the enemies hitting her. This can make her difficult to use in timed content or as a makeshift sustain.

Natasha is one of the best healers in the game and even better: everyone got her for free! She can cleanse debuffs and her heal also gives HP per turn. Her Ultimate heals the entire party, which is really useful if you need a heal after a devastating attack but it’s not your turn yet.

While Argenti suffers against smaller groups of enemies and Sushang struggles against hordes, the Trailblazer has the best of both worlds because they can alternate between single-target and Blast attacks. You can also get their E6 for free, which really powers them up. The only issue with the Trailblazer is that their Fire version is way better, so it can be annoying to switch back and forth. If you’re not interested in doing that, then I think Sushang is worth your attention a bit more than Argenti just because she’s got more general use. Her being a 4-star also means you have a higher chance of getting her E6.

Finally, Hanya is a good support because of her Burden and her Burst. She thrives on a hyper carry team, but you can also use her as a general support as well. Not only can she help you regain Skill Points with Burden, but her Burst also greatly powers up a single character. You definitely want Eidolons on her though, as she’s pretty lackluster without them.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.
