When Does Palworld Food Expire?

In Palworld, all food items can expire. This is obviously a problem, because you can get hungry as travel the world, which affects your health and stamina. As such, knowing how often food expires can help keep you stay alive.

How long does it take for food in Palworld to expire?

The length of time it takes for food to expire in Palworld varies depending on the type of food. Also, food expires in real-time, so the times given here correspond to real world minutes. The counter will only go down while the game is active, so don’t worry about closing the game and returning to find all your food has gone bad.

Most raw ingredients expire in about 10 minutes. This applies to items such as berries and meat, which have short shelf lives. Sadly, this means you can’t stockpile a bunch of berries early on and never run out of food, because they’ll be gone within a single in-game day. Wheat takes a little longer to expire, as it takes 40 minutes.

Cooked food takes a little longer to expire, however. In most cases, cooked food items made from a single ingredient, such as grilled meat dishes or bread, last about 20 minutes. However, more complex recipes do have longer shelf lives. A Jam Bun, for instance, can last up to 40 minutes and is made from Flour and Berries.

How do I stop food from expiring so fast in Palworld?

In order to shorten the expiry time of food in Palworld, you will need a Cooler Box. This is a Storage item that allows you to keep food for longer. You can unlock it in the Technology tab once you hit level 13. To build one, you will need 20 Ingots, 20 Stone, and 5 Ice Organs. Ingots can be made by mining Ore from shiny brown rocks and smelting them with a Furnace. Ice Organs can be obtained by hunting or catching ice-type Pals.

Once the Cooler Box is set up, you will need to assign a Pal with the Cooling ability to keep it active, and then place food inside. Instead of expiring in minutes, food will now expire after a few hours. For example, Bread’s lifespan increases from 20 minutes to two and a half hours when stored this way.

Palworld is out now for the PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
