Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga is the third season of the Blue Exorcist series, which debuted in 2011. With such a long time between releases, it’s natural to maybe need a quick refresher on what went down in the series. Luckily, it’s not too confusing to catch up, nor is it difficult to find what you need to watch.
The first season of Blue Exorcist ran for 25 episodes back in 2011. Undoubtedly, This is where you want to start if you’re trying to catch up. The first season covered three story arcs, adapting material from Volumes 1-3 of Kazue Kato’s manga with an additional anime-only arc.
The second season was titled Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga. This much shorter season came out after a long gap, debuting in 2017. Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga contains 12 episodes spanning a single arc. The season covers volumes 5-9 of the manga.

Where to watch Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga
All three seasons of Blue Exorcist are currently streaming on Crunchyroll. Both the first season and Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga are also available in the Japanese and English dub. The third season, Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga, is being simulcast on Sunday evenings, with past episodes becoming available afterward.
Due to the nature of the simulcast, the Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga episodes are currently only available in Japanese with subtitles. So those interested in the English dub of the latest installment will have to wait a bit longer. The first episode, “The World’s Astir”, aired January 7, 2024.
Additionally, there are also three Blue Exorcist OVAs that are unavailable on Crunchyroll. There is one for the first season and two for the second. However, these OVAs are adapted from bonus material and, as such, are not fully required. However, if you still want to watch them, you must track down physical copies, as no legitimate streaming sources are currently available.
