Larian says updating could fix Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox saves

While initially intended to release alongside the PS5 version, Larian delayed the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 to fix technical issues. It appears, unfortunately, a few made it through to release. Xbox players were excited when the game stealth dropped onto the Xbox Series X following The Game Awards 2023. However, that elation turned to frustration, with many reporting this game-breaking bug. Multiple fans have reported issues involving their saves simply disappearing from the console.

Reddit user Loganburke, one of the first to report the issue, claimed each time they rebooted the console, Baldur’s Gate 3 would act as if it had never been played before. Hundreds of comments echoed these complaints.

Obviously, this is a huge issue for a game the size of Baldur’s Gate 3.

The good news is that Larian seems to be on top of this bug. The company pushed out an update for Baldur’s Gate 3 early on December 11, 2023. Larian’s update suggested that the save issue stems from a crash, though that is not exactly what the fans have been describing.

Either way, Larian suggests updating the Xbox system and claims that this will help with some of the issues. It’s possible at least part of the issue is a severe error related to cloud saving. If you’re having these issues, try both of these updates.

However, even if these fixes are in place, it’s possible that any previously lost saves will remain lost.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is out now for the PC, PS5 and Xbox.
