8Bit Evolution has worked on a number of homebrew games for the original Nintendo Entertainment System, like Zombie Jack and Zombiesiege: Lumberjack Defense. It’s next release, however, will be a little different. Germ Squashers will also help others, thanks to a tie-in with the Children’s Miracle Network.
Germ Squashers is an action game where one to two players attempt to eliminate bacteria and viruses in a children’s hospital within a certain amount of time. Power ups appear, if people kill flashing germs. In addition to saving this virtual hospital, proceeds from the sale of Germ Squashers will be given to the Children’s Miracle Network help real children’s hospitals. Copies of the game will be provided to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, for the kids to play during their stay.
8Bit Evolutions’ product page for Germ Squashers is now online. The cartridge alone is $40, or you can get it with a box for $60. People can provide an email address if they’d like to be notified when pre-orders open. Germ Squashers will work on original NES systems, as well as consoles like the RetroN 5.
