The roguelike 30XX is going to be a little less threatening than its predecessor, 20XX. At least, in one mode it will be. As part of the PAX Online events, the 30XX Mega Mode was announced. This removes the threat of permadeath. Though, keep in mind that this does only apply to one mode.

Here’s how it will work. If you go through the Mega Mode, you’ll still have procedurally generated levels. However, dying won’t be devastating. You can send Ace and Nina back in and try again. Once the levels have been generated, they’ll stay that way that playthrough and let you see if you can master them. Though, for those who prefer the original sort of 20XX experience, Arcade Mode will remain.

Here’s the 30XX Mega Mode trailer showing Ace and Nina in a dive. When you die, you return to a HQ hub where you can prepare, then retry. Starting new Mega Mode dives will give you new levels.

Here are some screenshots from the game’s new mode.

30XX will come to “consoles” and the PC in 2021 and will have both single and two-player cooperative multiplayer. In case you missed it, there was an Ace-centric gameplay trailer released back in June 2020.
