Persona 5 Royal released last week in Japan and Dengeki provided details on its retail sales performance along with Luigi’s Mansion 3 from Kadokawa’s trackers.

When the original Persona 5 released in Japan in 2016 it was a big hit that topped the 500,000 milestone in Japan with about 375,000 units sold in its opening week and finishing at 561,000. The expanded version of the game, Persona 5 Royal, sold 201,184 units in its opening week as the best-selling title according to the Kadokawa tracker.

The sell-through rate for Persona 5 Royal is estimated at around 80% and the limited edition version has almost completely sold out. However, that’s about 35.8% of the total of the original Persona 5, so it’ll be interesting to see how many hearts of the +300,000 players they’ll be able to steal back in the coming weeks.

As for Luigi’s Mansion 3, it charted at #2 with 163,607 units sold in its opening week. It sold through about 55% of its initial shipment. While it didn’t top Luigi’s Mansion for 3DS which debuted in Japan last November with 285,000 units and eventually becoming a million-seller (1.05 million units), it surpassed the original GameCube version which opened with 134,000 units in Japan (total 412,000 units).

Persona 5 Royal is now available in Japan for PlayStation 4. The game releases in North America and Europe in Spring 2020. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is available worldwide for the Nintendo Switch.
