Today, Spike Chunsoft and Acquire announced Katanakami, a new game that is a spinoff of the Way of the Samurai series. This makes this the first game in the series since Way of the Samurai 4 on PlayStation 3.
Check out the reveal trailer below [Thanks, bambooshoots game on Youtube!]:
Compared to the Way of the Samurai series, Katanakami will take on a top-down view, and is much more focused on taking down enemies in hack n’ slash gameplay, rather than the daily life aspects of the samurai life. The game is singleplayer, although there are some asynchronous elements, such as katanas appearing where other players have fallen. The series’ traditional dogeza action returns.
Around 18 minutes of gameplay was shown off on the Famitsu x Dengeki livestream here:
Here’s a look at the characters:
The character design of the protagonist (CV: Hidenori Takahashi), as well as Gunji Toudou (CV: Atsushi Imaruoka) and his daughter Nanami Toudou (CV: Yuuki Kuwahara) were shown off.
Katanakami releases for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in early 2020. The game will cost 3,980 yen.
