This week, Tanita uploaded a video showing off the latest version of the Twin Stick joysticks that was funded via Campfire crowdfunding for a limited production run.

Originally, the twin stick design was based off the designs made for Virtual-On Force’s cabinets, with changes made to fit a joystick controller, but it didn’t work out as well as they hoped, so they had to discuss further on how to change it.

According to Tanita, one of the biggest changes to this version from the previous one are the changes to the joystick levers, and they have been strengthened so that wear and tear won’t happen as easily from accidentally twisting the stick itself when gripping it tight and moving it diagonally. Additionally, there are now a few more buttons on the face of the joysticks, and every button uses micro switches.

The inside of the stick itself has also been considerably changed from what’s in the cabinets for Virtual-On arcade games, focusing on ease of replacement and maintenance for the micro switches at the base when they are worn down. The cover can be opened even without a screwdriver.

The bottom of the joystick controller now has plastic suction cups that are meant to hold the controller in place, considering the physical action involved with moving two sticks.

Finally, here is the decal as decided upon by Sega:

The twin stick controller shown in the video will be present at TGS 2019 for people to try out, and Sega will be revealing more about the joystick controller and the upcoming PS4 ports of the first three Virtual-On games at a stage event during TGS 2019.
