Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 won’t just have the flashy, 3D sports minigames people expect from the series. It is also adding 2D retro ones. These will feature classic character art, making the people from the Mario series look like they did in the original Super Mario Bros. and characters from Sonic the Hedgehog look as they did in the original Sega Genesis games.
Only ten of these Tokyo 1964 Summer Olympics events will be present in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, with footage showing Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman all showing up in their old-school attire.
