At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima was present to show off several new characters with Mama, Deadman (played by Guillermo del Toro), and the Bridge Baby. New gameplay was also shown off, and Geoff Keighley revealed he and many others will be making guest cameos in the game.

According to Kojima, Mama is a bit of a tragic character, with her kid having gone over to the other side while still in her womb. At the same time, because she and her child are still connected via the umbilical womb, she is unable to leave her location.

More gameplay for Death Stranding is set to debut at TGS 2019, but Kojima did have a tiny bit of gameplay to show off today:

The gameplay has a cameo of Geoff Keighley as ‘Ludens Fan’, and we also get to see just how big the open world in this game is, spanning the entirety of the USA. There is, bizarrely (or not, considering horse poop in MGSV), an option to urinate on the ground. Kojima says that the mushroom that appears on the ground represents where many players have peed.

At the very end, we see Sam falling off a cliff, which scares the bridge baby. Players will then need to use the PS4 controller’s gyro feature to rock the baby and soothe it.

Death Stranding releases for PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019. More info is to come at TGS 2019.
