With Castlevania Anniversary Collection, people get eight classic entries in the series to play on their consoles or computers. However, they won’t just be getting the localized released. Via the PlayStation Blog, Konami noted that the Japanese title variants will also be provided after launch.
These Japanese Castlevania versions will be added in a free Castlevania Anniversary Collection update. There is no specific date for them, but the announcement said people could expect them “shortly after launch.” As the compilation launches this week, this could end up meaning sometime in May or June 2019. However, as this is the first time Kid Dracula will be released outside of Japan, people will already be getting the Japanese version of that game.
Konami did not note how the Japanese versions will change the experience in different installments. However, in general, translations are different in some games, religious imagery may be removed in some installments, and the Japanese versions of the game sometimes feature more blood or violence.
Castlevania Anniversary Collection will be released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 16, 2019. The game will cost $19.99.
