After the discovery that Project Prelude Rune’s Twitter, Facebook, and official website were taken down that we reported on yesterday, it appeared that the game had been unofficially cancelled, especially considering studio head Hideo Baba’s resignation. This has now been made official. [Thanks, USGamer!]

According to a spokesperson from Square Enix, “Following evaluation of various aspects of Project Prelude Rune, development of the title has been canceled.” They also clarified the fate of Baba’s studio: “Studio Istolia is no longer in operation and we have been taking appropriate steps to assign studio staff to other projects within the Square Enix Group.”

Hideo Baba left Square Enix back in April, saying that he was leaving “to make way for the new generation of talent”, just two years after the announcement of his first project at the company, Project Prelude Rune. That said, all we’ve seen of the game up to this point has been some concept art, as well as a short teaser that appeared at PlayStation LineUp Tour last year.

Project Prelude Rune has been cancelled.
