There’s been a lot of talk about Sonic this week since his reveal for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and original character designer Naoto Oshima and programmer Yuji Naka shared messages for the fans.
After watching the trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog film and hearing from fans, Naoto Ohshima, the character designer for the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, shared his own drawing and a message for the fans:
So far, various Sonics have appeared. I loved all Sonics. I saw a trailer of Sonic’s movie. I was expecting adults to have fun too. I am worried.
Since everyone loves Sonic, various opinions come out. I want to thank everyone.
It is my ideal to be sonic everyone loves.
Following the fan outcry, the film’s director Jeff Fowler made a statement acknowledging that fans weren’t happy, and reassured that the folks at Paramount and Sega are “fully committed to making this character the best he can be” so we can expect some changes in Sonic’s design.
Upon hearing about the news from the director, former head of Sonic Team, Yuji Naka, who was a programmer for the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, also shared a message thanking fans:
The power of sonic fans is amazing. It is good to go in a good direction. Thank you so much for loving Sonic. https://t.co/uKiY2GLXjf
