Granzella has announced that they are making R-Type Final 2, with a crowdfunding campaign to occur in the future. For this, they have opened an official site for the game, and have also released a teaser video as well.

Here’s Granzella’s introduction to the game in English:

Granzella has started planning to bring out the latest work of the milestone in side-scrolling shooter games, “R-TYPE“, which went out into the world in 1987.

In this latest version of R-TYPE game, all the player fighters that appeared in R-TYPE Final, expressions of attacks, operability and the exhilarating feeling of the gameplay will be intensified.
In addition, more customizable elements will be available for the player fighters.

The stages are rebuilt from scratch for the new game. As this is going to be the first R-TYPE game since 16:9 displays have become the standard, the screen structure will be reviewed to improve the playability and make the side scrolling shooter game more exciting and enjoyable. In addition, the stages that appeared in the earlier work will come back with new expressions and interpretations.

Though the difficulty level of the game is originally high, this game allows the player to set a difficulty level from a wider range according to his or her ability.
The higher the difficulty level, the more scores the player will get. It also enables the players to compete the scores with R-TYPE pilots from all over the world.

Granzella states that now that screens have become 16:9 ratio, they have tried evolving the sidescrolling shooter genre by focusing on the expressions of how enemies are destroyed, in order to increase the exhilaration from playing the game.

Additionally, the more the player plays the game, the stronger the enemies will get, as new enemies are generated from the carcasses of others. This means that the stage will evolve alongside the player’s skill. More stages are also set to be added after release.

Regarding the series’ notorious difficulty, it is automatically adjusted to player ability, so when players do well, they are rewarded with higher difficulties that allow for higher scores in turn.

More information on the crowdfunding campaign is set to release in May… if all this is real. Remember, it’s April Fool’s Day in Japan, which can mean some pretty devilish jokes on the part of developers, and R-Type Final 2 has been in an April Fool’s joke before by Irem. Granzella’s Kazuma Kujo, who directed the R-Type games, also said back in February if he were to make a new R-Type game, it would likely not be called R-Type Final 2.

That said, it definitely doesn’t seem to be fake, considering the PS4 logo, and licensing information from Irem present on the site. And finally, there’s the teaser video (which technically went up March 31), which features an all-new song from Granzella’s favorite singer, Mai Iida:

R-Type Final 2 could be in development for the PlayStation 4, with a crowdfunding campaign to come in the future… maybe.
