During MAGIC 2019, Shenmue III director Yu Suzuki talked a bit more about the game, including how hunger will play a role in the game. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Here are the highlights:

    • There are around 400-500 NPCs in Shenmue III, “a Shenmue-like number of people”.

    • Back in the original Shenmue, there weren’t many stores around where you could have in-depth conversations, and so there are more stores in this game. The same product can cost differently in different stores, so you could go around to buy the item at the lowest price if you explore around.

    • While cutting logs will be the main part-time job in Shenmue III, Ryo can also go fishing afterwards. You can go find your own fishing spot, then sell your fish afterwards.

    • This time, if Ryo doesn’t eat while hungry, he’ll eventually end up not even being able to run.

If you haven’t already, check out the latest trailer in our previous report here. Shenmue III will come to the PlayStation 4 and PC on August 27, 2019.
