It seems Wargroove cross-play has hit a snag, when it comes to the PlayStation 4. On Resetera, a recent thread regarding cross-play games appearing on the PlayStation 4 appeared. It discussed Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden’s Game Informer interview where he said Sony was “open for businesswhen it came to cross-play. Chucklefish CEO Finn “Tiy” Brice stepped in to say that when it came to cross-play in the latest game, “We were told no.”

Here is Brice’s statement from the Resetera thread.

Hi all,

CEO Of Chucklefish here, we just launched Wargroove with crossplay between PC, Switch and Xbox so I wanted to chime in.

We made many requests for crossplay (both through our account manager and directly with higher ups) all the way up until release month. We were told in no uncertain terms that it was not going to happen.

From our side, we can *literally* toggle a switch and have it working. Of course policy work might be more complicated for Sony.

Just wanted to provide some balance on the issue and say that it certainly isn’t a question of developers having not contacted their account managers or having dropped the ball. We were told no.

In Wargroove, cross-play allows people on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC to play through multiplayer matches together and share custom content (campaigns and maps) that have been created. This feature has been available since launch. For multiplayer, people share a code after creating a room so others can join. For custom content, there is an in-game browser where you can see different options and, again, codes can be shared to directly find certain creations.

Wargroove is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. It is also coming to the PlayStation 4, but that version’s release date has yet to be announced.
