Capcom announced its plans to adapt the Mega Man IP into a live-action Hollywood film for the first time, with the aim of further energizing the brand for the series’ 30th anniversary.

The film, Mega Man (tentative), will be written and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, and is scheduled to be distributed by 20th Century Fox. Cherin Entertainment, producers of the Planet of the Apes series, will be producing it with Masi Oka, best known for his role in NBC’s Heroes.

Based on the Mega Man franchise, Capcom aims to appeal to a diverse audience, including not only gamers but action movie fans with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the production and entertainment value that is expected from Hollywood movies.

More information on the Mega Man film will be announced later. Its release date is currently listed as TBA.
