The giant mythical creatures known as the “Idola” play a big role in Sega’s upcoming smartphone game, Idola Phantasy Star Saga, but there’s a lot more to them than what you might expect.
The “Idola” are giant creatures that are said to be messengers of the god of destruction, “Dark Falz,” who was sealed ages ago. They now threaten the livelihood of mankind, and fighting against them is a big part of the game.
There are all kinds of Idola that you’ll run into. These Idola are named after constellations. In the above you have Aries that excels in defense and healing, Leo that has overwhelming destructive powers, and Gemini that fight as a pair with surreal combination attacks.
These are lower-class Idola, but they’ll still put up a good fight against your team. In the above image we have Chameleon that can change its attribute based on its opponents, the alert and agile Lupus that uses its movement to toy with enemies, and Cetus with the ability to launch a powerful destructive energy beam attack.
Lastly, players will also be able to transform into Idola to fight against other players as a giant Raid Boss. This will be done by combining the power of your eight characters (four each from Law & Chaos sides) to transform into an Idola. Your leader character determines which Idola you’ll get to use.
Idola Phantasy Star Saga launches in Japan in 2018 for iOS and Android. You can read more about the game here, check out a trailer showing gameplay and its law/chaos characters here, or learn more about its setting from the director and producer here.
