Valve will be working with Perfect World Games, a Chinese partner, to make a version of Steam for China. The service does not have an announced launch date.

Valve promised that no changes are planned for Steam’s worldwide operations and services. Steam China will function as a new way for Chinese gamers to get access to a new library of games, “providing quality content and improving the experience for both gamers and developers.”

Steam China’s library of games is likely to be different from Steam’s in the rest of the world, especially in light of Steam’s recent statement on content policies.

Perfect World previously helped bring Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive over to China.
