It’s been reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment is ending physical production of PlayStation Vita games in the company’s American and European branches by close of fiscal year 2018 in March 31, 2019.
The information comes from Kotaku who learned that developers were told today in a message that Sony plan to end all Vita GameCard production by close of fiscal year 2018, and that all PS Vita product code requests be submitted by June 28, 2018 and final purchase orders must be entered by February 15, 2019.
When Kotaku reached out, a Sony spokesperson confirmed in an email that the PS Vita physical card production is coming to an end. While this means there won’t be any new physical games being made for PS Vita in the West, Japan will likely continue theirs for a while longer.
The PlayStation Vita system first launched in Japan on December 17, 2011. It followed with a 1st Edition release in North America on February 15, 2012 and a general release for both North America and Europe on February 22, 2012.
