Splatoon 2’s first paid DLC, the Octo Expansion, will release this July and producer Hisashi Nogami was featured in a special dev talk video where he shared bits of info on the upcoming expansion.
The video starts out with Nogami-san talking about the inspiration behind the creation of Octo Expansion, to which he said there were several sources of inspiration, but one was to create a world with a different look and feel to it than the worlds of multiplayer as well as the previously existing single-player mode and Salmon Run.
He went on to talk about the mystery of the Octo Expansion, which will start you out with a character who lost their memory and not knowing where to go. The player will figure things out as they go along so they’ll also feel as though they’re in the situation.
He then shares a few details on the new X Rank. Players who are ranked S+10 or higher will be automatically promoted to X Rank. Players who are X Rank will get a new additional value, the “X Power,” that is attached to the player profile. Within a given month, X Rank players will compete to see who will have the highest X Power value.
Nogami shares more about the Octo Expansion and describes it as an additional set of content to be played in a single-player style with over 80 stages that will feature a wider variety of weapons needed to clear as a way to get players to try out some more weapons. Lastly, he talks about what he thinks fans are going to love most about Octo Expansion.
Splatoon 2 is available on the Nintendo Switch. The Octo Expansion releases in July 13, 2018 and will go for $19.99. You can check out more footage from the expansion in our previous report.
