For the past 24 years, Archie Comics have handled the publishing for the Sonic the Hedgehog series of comics. However, Sega has recently announced that that partnership has now ended and that they have acquired a new publisher. IDW Publishing will be in charge of publishing a new line of Sonic comics that are set to begin releasing in 2018. According to Sega, a publishing plan is already being put into place and teams are being formed.

IDW’s chief creative officer, Chris Ryall, said the following:

“We’ve been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike, and are excited to be able to spread specifics about our plans for the comic in the near future.”

Additionally, Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer for Sonic the Hedgehog had this to say in regards to the announcement:

“We are ecstatic about this partnership with IDW. We know they’ll serve as a good home for the new adventures of Sonic, his friends and foes.”
