We recently learned more about Dragon Quest XI’s monster riding system and Square Enix has provided a closer look with new screenshots and details on how monsters can help with a lift in the upcoming RPG.
In Dragon Quest XI, some monsters will help out by giving you a ride to get to areas you normally can’t reach on foot. Some monsters will help with the ability to fly while others might help you break through obstacles. The Skull Rider will come in handy for climbing up cliffsides or dungeon walls.
Traveling becomes much easier once you’re able to get help from the Dragon Rider.
As seen in the above screenshots, it looks like using the right mounts will be crucial for exploring different parts.
Unlike befriending monsters as you may have done in Dragon Quest Monsters, mounts may become available after beating them in battle as demonstrated in the above screenshots.
Here’s a look at some of the new monster you’ll get to mount:

Dragon Quest XI releases in Japan on July 29 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. The game is also in development for Nintendo Switch.
