Atlus recently shared a closer look with new screenshots and details of Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey, the upcoming new and refined version of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey.
As far as story goes, it retains most of the 2009 RPG, which is used as the base of the game with added new content to give it a fresh new take. The game is set in “Schwarzwelt,” a mysterious place that suddenly appeared in the Antarctic as ruined lands. The protagonist and company are sent there to investigate, where they see something you’d never expect to see in the Antarctic—angels and demons.
Mankind’s future depends on the choice of the protagonist—your choices.
First, here’s a look at some familiar faces from the Schwarzwelt Investigational Team:
Protagonist (CV: Jun Hirose)
Gore (CV: Unsho Ishizuka)
Jiminez (CV: Takahiro Sakurai)
Zelenin (CV: Maaya Sakamoto)
Next up is a look at the new character Alex:
Alex (CV: Megumi Han)
Alex is a mysterious new character for Deep Strange Journey, who is after the protagonist’s life for unknown reasons. She appears before the protagonist and company in the midst of their Schwarzwelt investigation. Not much is currently known about the woman.
Amon
A demon who is one of the 72 spirits of Solomon. An archfiend of the seventh order, Amon is the duke of hell who commands 40 army corps. Similar to Alex, Amon appears before the protagonist during their Schwarzwelt investigation. Exactly what kind of relation does he share with Alex?
The new character Alex and the new demon Amon are both illustrated by Masayuki Doi. They’re part of Deep Strange Journey’s new content, which includes new events, a new dungeon, and a new ending.
Maria and Master Therion
Nebiros and Beelzebub
In addition to newly illustrated demons by Masayuki Doi, the game features extra demons from other titles to bring it about a total of 350 additional demons for Deep Strange Journey.
In the event we’ll get to see the brushed-up illustrations with voices to add to the dramatic events.
New skills and new growth elements will also provide battles with a fresh new take.
New UI arrangements and various other elements have also been added to give it more of a deep and refined look. The game offers three difficulty settings and will let you save inside dungeons, this time around. Again, the BGM is being handled by Atlus’ sound team featuring Shoji Meguro and Toshiki Konishi.
Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey releases in Japan in Fall 2017 for Nintendo 3DS.
