At E3 2016, Siliconera spoke to Nioh director Fumihiko Yasuda, who shared more on the subject of online features, including a multiplayer feature that we might see from Team Ninja for the action RPG.

“Because yokai are such a strong feature of Nioh, and their connection to the spirit world, we would like to do an online feature that takes place in this spirit world which would have both enemies and friendly online players mixed together,” Yasuda shared. “That is something I would like to do. We’re developing this, but we’re not sure it will make the release.”

He continued, “[Laughs] The core of the game is going to be the single player campaign with William’s story. For online features, even though it is not something that hasn’t been done before with this [Souls] genre, is co-op play where you can summon players at the shrines. That is the feature we are focusing with the release.”

Nioh will release in 2016 for PlayStation 4. We’ll have more from Yasuda-san later. Meanwhile, you can check out the game’s E3 2016 trailer and more here.
