Last week, Nintendo released Xenoblade Chronicles X in Japan, and the game sold 85,586 copies in its first week. That isn’t a figure to write home about, but interestingly, it’s very close to the sales of the first Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii.

 

When Xenoblade Chronicles was released back in 2010, the game sold 82,952 copies in its first week. Despite the Wii U having a much smaller userbase than the Wii, X managed to match the sales of its predecessor, although it remains to be seen how many sales it will amass over the next year or so. That said, releasing the game at the start of Golden Week was a smart decision.

 

While it may have been the most exciting release last week, Xenoblade Chronicles X wasn’t the the top-selling game. That spot went to Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, which sold nearly 180,000 copies at launch. Meanwhile, the latest expansion for Dragon Quest X sold nearly 100,000 copies on the Wii U.
