Patch 2.5 for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is coming soon, and in a new development blog post producer/director Naoki Yoshida says that it’s part of the game’s grand finale before a new story kicks off with the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward expansion.

Patch 2.5 will represent part one of “Before the Fall,” which is what the finale to the Realm Reborn story is titled. It will contain roughly two-thirds of the main scenario quests pertaining to the finale, three new dungeons, and the conclusion of the Crystal Tower questline and the World of Darkness. It’s scheduled for release sometime between the middle and end of January.

Part two of the Before the Fall storyline will follow sometime near the end of March, but  prior to this, Yoshida says, Square Enix will release patch 2.51, which will introduce the Gold Saucer and associated mini-games. (You can learn more about these here.)
