We’ve already seen several of the more traditional Summoned Beast monsters from the series in Final Fantasy Explorers, such as Bahamut, Shiva, and Ifrit. The official website shows off other popular Summons like Odin and Leviathan, along with the brand Summon, called Amaterasu.

Amaterasu:

The above is a look at Amaterasu, who makes its debut in Final Fantasy Explorers. Not much is known about it, but it definitely dons an interesting set of clothing. The seven swords seen on its back are said to be its main weapons. As the name implies, it seems to have a Japanese motif behind its design.

Leviathan:

Leviathan, the “Sea King” or “Lord of All Waters” recently appeared in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, but he’ll also be back in Final Fantasy Explorers as a Summoned Beast boss.

Explorers will have to fight him in a sea-based battlefield, so it’ll be important to choose your jobs wisely. He’ll also go underwater and emerge to perform powerful attacks, so you’ll need to be on guard while taking on this sea serpent.

Odin:

Since Final Fantasy Explorers is all about fighting Summoned Beast monsters, it just wouldn’t be right without one of the fan-favorites in Odin. He’ll use his well-known attacks in its one-hit-kill Zantetsuken and Gungnir.

We’ve seen how explorers can transform into Final Fantasy characters, like the recently revealed Yuna, Tidus, and Bartz, through the game’s Trance system. However, that’s just part of the Trance system’s full potential.

There are actually two ways to use the Trance system, one that lets you borrow powers from Final Fantasy characters such as Cloud Squall and Lightning. The other lets you borrow powers from the Summoned Beasts.

While in Trance mode, you’ll see a special attack symbol appear, which then lets you use the Crystal Drive to transform into a Final Fantasy character. If you have the character’s Magic Stone, you’ll be able to use their special abilities, like Cloud’s Omnislash, and more.

Again, if you’re holding a Magic Stone from a Summoned Beast monster, you’ll end up using one of their special abilities instead. These attacks can be just as powerful, so it seems like it can be a matter of preference or situational options.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.
