Yo-kai Watch 2: Head and Founder will be released soon in Japan, bringing new multiplayer features, time traveling, and a bunch of new yokai to the series. In a recent Yo-kai Watch 2-themedNintendo Direct, Level 5 shared new information on the game.

The Yo-kai Watch 2 Direct starts out with a brief introduction by Level-5 CEO and president Akihiro Hino, and also from series protagonist Keita Amano and his yokai buddy Whisper. Starting at 1:44, they explain what Yo-kai Watch is all about, highlighting the cross-media project that has been quite popular in Japan.

Next, they show off some of the basic gameplay in Yo-kai Watch, where you have to go around solving problems that are being caused by various yokai in town. They seem to do all sorts of mischievous things like hiding controllers and messing with the judgement of referees in sports.

At 5:35, Keita and Whisper show us what battles are like. You can spin through three different yokai to take on enemies, and special attacks require different stylus actions.

Starting at 10:30, we get to see some of the elements in Yo-kai Watch 2, introduced by Keita and Whisper, who gets excited at the fact that they can now ride the trains that were previously blocked off, as they show off some of the new areas.

With different towns to visit using the train, Yo-kai Watch 2 seems to have a lot more to explore than the previous game did. Additionally, you can collect stamps by visiting different places.

The 14:10 mark starts a little section of the Yo-kai Watch 2 Direct that shows off some of the newest yokai to be introduced to the series. The Onigiri (rice ball) Samurai, is a pun on the word (oni = demon, giri = cut,) so he’s a yokai who cuts down demons, but looks like an onigiri.

Next, we see a little boss fight at 17:30. Powerful boss characters in Yo-kai Watch 2 can become new allies. Following at 18:00, we’re shown some of the other new elements in the game, like bicycle racing, a “red light green light” style mini-game, tunnel exploration, and a red box with mysterious… farting effects.

20:45 in the video shows some of the new story elements in the game, starting with the past of Sakura New Town, 60 years prior, where we’ll get to see how the Yokai Watch item was originally created.

We get a glimpse at the new multiplayer mode at 22:23, too, which can be played online. There’s also an action mode aspect to it called Yo-kai Watch Busters, where players play as various yokai to take on a powerful oni.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Head and Yo-kai Watch 2: Founder will be released in Japan on July 10, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.
