Capcom are treating Ultra Street Fighter IV as a major overhaul to the Street Fighter IV series. In addition to adding five new characters, the update will rebalance the entire game, trying to make more characters viable competitively against one another.
And Capcom don’t intend to stop there, producer Tomoaki Ayano says. In a Famitsu magazine feature translated by Polygon, Ayano says that Ultra Street Fighter IV will receive updates of its own, to keep the game going.
“I think the battle balance in a fighting game is something that needs to be constantly changing,” Ayano shared. “This is just my personal opinion, but I like to see updates happen at just the right time to retain a sense of constant motion within the game mechanics.”
“I’m sure I’ll get feedback from gamers once Ultra IV is out for a while, and I want to use that feedback as much as I can to raise and nurture the game.”
[Note that these won’t necessarily be updates that you’ll need to pay for. Capcom have released a number of free balance updates for their fighters.]
Ultra Street Fighter IV will be available in early 2014 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game will be available both as a standalone title as well as a downloadable update for Super Street Fighter IV.
