If you enjoyed either Zero Escape: Nine Persons, Nine Hours, Nine Doors or the sequel Virtue’s Last Reward you should check out Night of the Sickle Weasel. This sound novel from Chunsoft is one of the main games that inspired Kotaro Uchikoshi while he was creating the Zero Escape series.

Night of the Sickle Weasel takes place in a ski lodge where a murder has been committed. Your goal is to catch the culprit. The game has multiple endings depending on who you pin as the killer. Players solve the mystery by running down alternate routes and gaining clues each time that lead to the solution. Night of the Sickle Weasel: Smart Sound Novel has the same story with all new graphics and an orchestral score. The Super Nintendo version (and proceeding ports) had eerie blue character silhouettes. The iOS remake has HD quality backgrounds and swipe controls to flip through the story.

Smart Sound Novel is a new series for Spike Chunsoft and Night of the Sickle Weasel is the first game to get this treatment. Uchikoshi said he believes smartphones are a good platform for adventure games so maybe we’ll see a port of Zero Escape here in the future.

Night of the Sickle Weasel: Smart Sound Novel is available now for 1,000 yen ($10) on iTunes.
